A View From The East
As I step from the Treasurer’s place to the East, I am both
humbled and honored that the Lodge has entrusted me to lead this great vessel
of brotherhood. It has grown in many ways since I last occupied this seat 18
years ago. It fills me with hope for the
future of our Lodge and the Fraternity in general. The officers of this Lodge are truly a
remarkable group. They are the real reason why we have been, and will continue
to be, so successful. My Brothers, if you have not been to Lodge recently, you
really need to experience it for yourself.
The installation was well attended. The Lodge room was completely filled with
added chairs from the dining room. A highlight from the night was Worshipful
Brother Chatwell with Right Worshipful Brother Sabourin and a contingent from
St. George Lodge in Toronto presented Brother Dillon with an honorary
membership. To paraphrase WB Chatwell;
“There are very few moments in a Mason’s career where he
gets the opportunity to make a difference in a senior member’s journey. Investing George Edward (Fast Eddie) Dillon
with his apron was one of those moments. There was not a dry eye in the room.
Every person had a glimpse of what our yearly visitation means to the brethren.
Fast Eddie has always been a part of that tradition.”
Saturday morning found us at the home of WB Stamper for
“Self defense” training and some delicious chili prepared by his wife (Hmmm, new
Chili Cook-off competitor?) After lunch, we then traveled to Castle Noel where
WB Harold Siburt (83) and Bro George (Fast Eddie) Dillon (93) went down the
“Christmas story” slide. Proof is on the wall at Castle Noel and in our Tyler’s
room. Come to Lodge and see for yourself! All in all, it was an exceptional
weekend.
This year I would like to reintroduce some old customs to
renew meaning to some of the things we do. I hope to improve the Lodge
experience for everyone. Again, I would like to thank the Lodge for their
confidence in me to lead this great vessel we call John W. Barkley Lodge.
Worshipful Master
W B Robert
